The Diagnosis

A message came through from the program this week. Six months in. How's it going?

I haven't answered yet.

In the clinic, that's the six-month follow-up. The patient comes back, and you don't open with how they look today. You open with the interval — everything that happened between the last visit and this one.

The honest interval: four quiet weeks in a row. No broker calls. No new deals. Nothing clearing the filters. The system is running. I haven't been.

The Prescription

We don't diagnose diabetes off a fingerstick. We order an A1C — because it averages three months of glucose, not ten seconds. Same patient, same blood, completely different conclusion. The only thing that changed was the window.

A week in acquisition is a fingerstick. Six months is the A1C.

So I ran the A1C on us. Education complete — every unit, plus the financing course. SBA pre-qualification and a HELOC, both live. Deal box rebuilt three times, each rebuild sharper. Broker relationships opened. Three deals worked to real numbers, two to structure conversations. A deal team assembled — lender, attorney, financial planning contact. A command center built to run all of it.

That's a real A1C. Six months of measurable progress on every input that matters — except the one that closes a deal.

Here's the finding in the follow-up. The system I built is good. It screens listings every day without me. The filters hold the line, the command center tracks every step, and the deal box won't let me chase something that doesn't fit. All of that was the right work. But screening isn't searching. The filters hold the line — they don't pick up the phone.

The infrastructure is strong. The gap is between the system running and the physician running alongside it. Four weeks of quiet isn't the system failing. It's the physician letting the system do the work alone.

That's an honest read. And like any honest read in the follow-up, it's only useful if it changes the plan.

Where We Are Right Now

Pipeline is clear. Sourcing tools running daily. Nothing cleared the refined filters this week — same pattern as the last three.

Flooring deal: still on hold. Same boundary.

The command center from last week is operational. The triage system screens every listing the same way whether I'm watching or not. That's the point of building it — but it was never meant to replace the active work.

What Comes Next

The system is built. The filters are set. The deal team is warm. The command center is running.

What's missing is the physician in the room — not just monitoring the readout, but working the case. Broker outreach. Engaging with listings that are close to the line. The kind of work the system can't automate.

Six months of building gave us everything except momentum. The A1C is real. The next fingerstick needs to look different.
